Before I begin, I just wanted to let you all know that I uploaded a YouTube video of me unboxing and giving my first impressions of the products that I picked up from Selena Gomez’s new makeup line: Rare Beauty!
Here’s a link: https://youtu.be/dAoMLuE0y88
It was super fun to record. I have done it a few times on Instagram but I’m glad I decided to put one on YouTube for a change. I was thoroughly impressed with these products just from the little tests that I did on camera, but I’ve been using them for a couple of weeks now and thought it would be nice to share my final thoughts!
The products I picked up were:
Soft Pinch Matte Liquid Blush in Grace
Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush in Joy
Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight in Mesmerize
With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Thankful
With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Blessed
Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick in Inspire
Now as I’m writing this, I’m realizing that I never took photos of the lip products actually on my lips (except for Inspire). I really need to properly figure out this whole “beauty blogger” stuff lol. I just love makeup, ok?! I’m learning as I go but you can get a better look of them on me in the YouTube video!
Let’s begin!
Soft Pinch Matte Liquid Blush in Grace – $26 CAD
I was very much influenced by the photos on Rare Beauty’s Instagram page (@rarebeauty) of Selena wearing this blush herself. It just looked so natural and pretty. I love the natural look and I’ve never tried a matte liquid blush like this before so I thought, why not try it out? Overall, I really love this colour. It’s like a pink but I see a little bit of purple in there, so maybe it’s a fuchsia of some sort? Compared to the other blush that I’ll talk about next, I find this one to be a lot more subtle. It’s not as intimidating. I think I’ll probably get a lot of wear out of it in the winter. I find it a little more sheer than the dewy liquid blush, which is nice and less worrisome. The doe foot applicator is in a very generous size but I also love it. At times I will admit that I think I could use something about half the size of it, just because the product itself is so opaque that I require like, the tiniest dot.
Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush in Joy – $26 CAD
This blush is much like the matte liquid blush. The consistency is the same. However, because the colour is very close to red, I find that this one is super opaque in comparison. I have to be very careful when applying this blush or I’ll look like a little lobster lol. The finish is obviously different as well. The other dries into a matte finish and this one is definitely dewy-er. Although this blush makes me nervous, I find that I’m gravitating towards this one more. I think it looks better with my tan (that thankfully has not started to fade away yet lol).
Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight in Mesmerize – $29 CAD
This is my first time using a liquid highlighter in a long time. I think the last one I used was Benefit’s “High Beam” in high school. I don’t know why I stopped using liquid highlighter, but I’m really glad that I picked this one up! The shade “Mesmerize” is a very pretty rose gold colour. Actually, now that I think of it, it’s kind of similar in colour to Benefit’s “High Beam” lol. Anyways, this one by Rare Beauty is great. I’m not disappointed by it but I’m not wow’d by it either. I love the size of it. I love the packaging! The size of it is so satisfying because I think it will last a really long time. I had a fear of using it and having it drag around all the makeup I have on underneath, but that wasn’t the case. It’s a beautiful subtle highlight. If you want a showstopper, maybe this one isn’t it.
With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Thankful – $21 CAD
I mentioned in my video that these lip balms weren’t getting many positive reviews. I think people were like, “It’s just another lip balm. They’re whatever.” And they’re not wrong! I am for a fact, a huge lip balm girl so I quite like them. I think the colours I got are perfect for when I need them. I love that light wash of colour just to stop me from looking dead lol. This colour “Thankful” is the perfect colour for me. It’s a brown shade that I tend to always gravitate to, but it never fails me! There isn’t a smell or taste to them. But I’m happy with the formula and I’m very happy with the shade of it. One thing I have to admit is that I think the packaging should have been in any colour but white/cream! I know that it’s going to get scuffed and all my dirty finger prints are going to get all over it but c’est la vie.
With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Blessed – $21 CAD
I was shocked at how much I liked this colour on me! It is very pink but I think that because it’s a lip balm, it’s okay. It’s not super opaque and intimidating, and I think I could wear this daily (depending on the outfit)! Not much else to say about it really. I’ll be honest and say I have worn it maybe once since the YouTube video. I’m gravitating way more towards “Thankful” and I think you can tell by the photo of it (can you see how smushed it is ha-ha?).
Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick in Inspire – $26 CAD
Probably my favourite of the bunch. I can’t get enough of this red. I will find any excuse to wear it! The formula is amazing. It’s so lightweight for a lipstick. It’s matte but it’s not drying, and I find that to be my biggest problem with any matte lip product. It’s staying power is pretty good. Oily/greasy foods are obviously not the best idea, but I’ve had glasses of water and it has looked the same afterwards! I don’t know if I’m getting ahead of myself here, but I think would repurchase this colour. I will most definitely look into getting more colours because I just really love this product. If you can only allow yourself to get ONE thing from this makeup line, I think this has to be it.
Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase. I do not regret buying any of these products (which is surprising). I think Selena Gomez did a fabulous job for being another celebrity diving into an industry she’s not especially known for. I think the price points of each of her products are rather reasonable. I think it’s at a great mid-point between drugstore and high end. I’m in love with the packaging. I’m really quite impressed and think it’s great quality for what you’re paying for. It’s so modern, classy, and chic! I do think the showstopper for me is the Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick though. I am not talking crap, guys. I am thoroughly impressed with this thing. And for $26? Sign me up.
Thanks for taking the time to read this! I know I’m not an expert and my opinion doesn’t matter, but I thought I’d share it with you anyway lol.
Have a great weekend!
Until next time,
– Tiny ❤
