DIY Frayed-Hem Jeans

I’m here with something new and exciting! Like I’ve said in my previous post, I’ve been really motivated and determined lately. That means that I’m also motivated and determined to blog more and come up with some different content! In today’s post, I’m going to share with you a little do-it-yourself project that I did the other day. I DIY’d my own pair of frayed-hem jeans!

I got this sick pair of gray straight-leg jeans from work for $10. That’s right TEN DOLLARS. When I bought them they were¬†waaay¬†too long for me, but they¬†fit perfectly around my waist! For $10, I racked my brain¬†for an idea¬†on how I could make them work. I mean, I could have got them hemmed for another $10 but who wants to do that?! Lol, not me!! I decided to hem them myself, and even better, I decided I wanted a FRAYED hem. We sell them at Topshop for almost $100. I love them and wanted them until I realized I could probably make them myself!! So I did and now here we are. Not only am I going to show you how they turned out, but I’m going to show you¬†how I made them in case you guys want to try doing this yourselves! Here we go!

Things you’ll need:

dscn25311

  1. Jeans – you could use an old pair, or even thrift a pair!
  2. Scissors (preferably fabric scissors, but I lost mine..)
  3. Tweezers
  4. Pencil or Chalk
  5. Measuring Tape

Step One:

dscn25341

Lay out your jeans and measure¬†them to your desired length. Then¬†draw a line for yourself¬†to¬†follow while you cut! Keep in mind that you’re going to need an inch or so for the frayed part. Side note: It looks like I cut off three inches from the bottom of my jeans.. I ended up cutting an extra inch. #shortgirlproblems Also, you don’t NEED to measure it out, draw a line, etc. If you’re comfortable eye-balling it, by all means go for it!! It’ll probably look more natural if you do it that way. I’m just a neat freak.

Step Two:

dscn25391

If you’ve measured where you want to cut them, cut away! If you’re eye-balling it, cut away! *TIP: Try the jeans on after! See where they sit! If you want them shorter, measure it out and cut some more!

Step Three:

dscn25441

Take your measuring tape again and measure¬†from the bottom of your jeans to where you’d like your fraying/fringe to start. I measured one and a quarter inch.¬†Draw another line across¬†then instead of cutting across, cut¬†up towards that line and make even little strips. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DESTROY A SIDE SEAM. That may cause you problems in the future!

Step Four:

dscn25511dscn25531

Take a good and close look at one of those little strips. You’ll notice that there are threads going vertically and horizontally. This is how we’re going to make it fray. Loosen up the threads a bit with your fingers. Then¬†take your tweezers and start to pull away all the horizontal/white¬†threads until you each the end of the strip. We don’t want those guys! Do this to every strip all the way around the leg.

This is what it should look like once you’ve done a few strips:

dscn25611

And once you’ve finished all the strips on BOTH legs, this is what they’ll¬†look like!! ūüôā

dscn25701

I’m so happy¬†with how these turned out. I¬†hope you guys enjoyed this post! I had a lot of fun¬†putting this together. If you’d like more DIYs, let me know in the comment section below!

Happy Tuesday!

January Inspiration ’17

Hello, friends. I’m here with the first inspiration post of 2017!!! AHH!! Where did the time go?! I can’t believe that January is coming to an end already. I’m not going to lie, but I feel like I’ve had a great start to 2017. I just recently was promoted to a management position at work! I feel very motivated and determined, not just about work, but just in terms of life. I feel like I have everything in order right now. I know it sounds corny. I just feel really positive and happy, and I hope these feelings will continue in the months to come :))

Since I’ve been in a real positive mindset, I’ve been very comfortable going out of my comfort zone in terms of style. I’ve become more confident! I’ve been trying new things and experimenting with patterns and colours even more than before! I’ve been really into creating full looks and have gone as far as styling my hair!! If you know me, I have never been big on styling my hair. Normally, I’ll blow dry it a bit then let the rest air dry. That’s it! But lately I’ve been putting my curling wand to good use, and I actually kind of like it lol.

Now for my inspiration this month, the majority of it is more colourful. I love prints/patterns, I love mixing patterns, and I love BRIGHT colours. I really want to make a statement and maybe create a real brand for myself. I want to focus on really figuring out what my style really is, and how to best compliment my petite figure. For 2017, I want to find a way to benefit and really help other women who are tiny in terms of style and how to dress. Take¬†a look at this month’s inspiration photos!!! –>

I don’t know about you but I’m so excited to see what 2017 brings me! I really want to accomplish a lot and make this year really count¬†–¬†but only time will tell!

I hope you guys are having a great week so far! :))

Until next time,

Outfit: Gucci Inspired

Yo, and hello! I am very, very, very happy to finally be saying that I HAVE AN OUTFIT POST TO SHARE. Thanks to my friend Ken (Instagram: @kenifromtheblock), I have some shots of an outfit I wore earlier this week!! This particular outfit was inspired by a look I found while browsing the internet. It was a photo of some looks from Fashion Week last year. I was¬†more so loving the center picture/the Gucci look, so I chose to try and recreate it. (I loooove Gucci!)¬†Here’s the photo:

fall_winter_2016_2017_fashion_trends_pussybow

Now my take isn’t as colourful or “out there” as Gucci’s, which I think is what¬†makes my look a bit more wearable. I really like the look of the “pussybow” (it’s what they call it, I swear!). I get Parisian vibes and it makes the look feel a bit more classy/sharp. It’s definitely more feminine and romantic as well. This has me pretty sure that I want to add a blouse with a pussybow to my wardrobe. For¬†my version of the¬†look, I used one of those skinny scarves from Zara and tried to tie it the same way as the picture. My scarf wasn’t as structured as the one in the inspiration photo, but I think it still kind of worked! I was also obsessed with the sleeves of the top¬†from the Gucci look, and I had the perfect sweater to recreate it. Now here’s my take on the Gucci “Pussybow” look!

What do you think? Do YOU like the look? Did I do alright at recreating it? I kind of enjoyed recreating a look from the runway and making it more wearable. Should I do a post like this again? I would love your feedback!

I hope you’re all having a great week so far!¬†I wanna thank Ken again for taking pictures! You all should go check out his Instagram! He’s got great style! (www.instagram.com/kenifromtheblock) ¬†Happy Wednesday/hump day!

Until next time,

Croc Bag Dreams: Achieved.

Hey everybody! I’m back with information that I have been dyyying to share with you guys since Christmas. You’re¬†gonna¬†laugh.¬†Wait for it..

My brother got me the perfect croc-textured baaaggg!! (THANK YOU, AARON <3)

Mind you, I did pick it out and order it myself.. he just gave me the money.¬†NONETHELESS he still got it for me, and I love it, and I’m gonna use it until it falls apart!

Do you guys remember how this croc-textured-bag-hunt started? I noticed that the Olsen twins (and many of my other style icons) wear them ALL THE TIME. Literally every candid photo of them is with some variation of a crocodile or snake-textured bag. They’re gorgeous, and I think they’re also¬†pretty classy (the bags and the Olsen twins). I could go on with how obsessed¬†I¬†am but I won’t. All I¬† can say is that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are terrible enablers.¬†The saddest part is that¬†we’ve never even met..

Anywho! I am very grateful for this Christmas present (and for my brother, obv). I hope that one day I can maybe own a nice expensive one. It will probably take a million years but until then, this one from Zara is my baby. I took some photos of her, have a look!

I’m reading¬†this over¬†and I’m realizing that¬†I’m treating this bag like it has feelings. If you know me, this is how I am with bags. If you don’t know me:¬†I AM A HUGE BAG LADY (/nerd). If I could own a closet full of bags, I really, really would. A bag “is merely a piece of iconography used to express individual identity”. Thank you Doug, from the movie Devil Wears Prada. The Devil¬†Wears Prada is my favourite movie and¬†I just found out the character’s name was Doug.¬†He’s right though! I feel like a woman can be defined by the kind of bag she wears.¬†Her bag can express her personality and her taste. Am I wrong?¬†Hopefully this Zara bag expresses that I’m a wannabe Olsen twin, haha! I can’t wait to wear¬†it all the time!¬†I’ll be sure to include it in upcoming outfit posts!

Hope you all have a fab weekend! Happy Fridaay!

Until next time,

Currently Loving (&HAPPY NEW YEAR!)

Hey friends! I’m currently a victim of a terrible stomach bug, and have isolated myself in my room with nothing to do. I can’t sit around and do nothing, so I thought I’d be productive and share a blog post! I kind of lost track of my “December Inspiration” and therefore I’ve¬†decided¬†to¬†just¬†share inspiration photos/photos of things I’m “currently loving”. I’ll probably continue to do monthly inspiration posts for 2017 because I like to see how my taste¬†evolves throughout the year. I¬†am going to put a stop to “Wardrobe Additions” though. As much as I liked the idea, I feel like it has encouraged me to shop more. I’ll go shopping and think: “I love this! And I could add it to my Wardrobe Additions for the month, so that’s even better!”¬†So basically I was buying (or thinking of buying)¬†even more clothes just¬†for blog content.¬†Definitely not the kind of mentality I should have if I want to save my money,¬†pay off student loans, and travel. I have plenty of clothes that I can remix and re-style. I think that’s the great part about fashion and personal¬†style. It works for any budget, and it’s more about how you express yourself than if you have the latest trendy piece. So here are some photos that inspire my current¬†taste in fashion/style, and also some photos that I just loove right now:

There you have it! A quick post on what’s currently inspiring me style-wise. I know it’s not much, but it’s something!¬†A¬†new year’s resolution of mine if to be more consistent with blogging and to¬†really (like¬†actually) start my YouTube channel. I will keep you guys updated!

And until then,¬†I hope you all had happy holidays and I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store!

Have a great weekend (hope your Friday is going better than mine!),

Current Obsession: Eyeglasses

Hi everybody! Today’s post is all about my current obsession: eyeglasses. Not just any eyeglasses though. I am OBSESSED with¬†these glasses that I got from Durumi http://www.instagram.com/thedurumi¬†(a store downtown on Queen St). I just love these frames and every time I wear them to work I get so many compliments. They were only $25! They really add a bit of quirkiness to my outfits-¬†and I love it.

img_4600

The funny part is that I actually have proper prescription eyeglasses but I choose to wear these non-prescription ones instead. Makes sense, right? If anyone knows, can you get prescription lenses put into cheap frames like these? I may just go to Lenscrafters and find out myself. Or maybe there’s even similar frames there that I can turn into prescription glasses!?! I’ll keep you all updated.¬†Don’t worry.

— But that’s it for today, my friends! Sorry that¬†it’s a bit short and sweet this time. *GOOD* NEWS though! For the first week of January, beginning on New Years Eve, I will be using my vacation time! That’s an entire week of me, myself, and blogging ;)) I can’t wait, CAN YOU?

Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend so far! Get that Christmas shopping done! (I’m saying this more for me than for you LOL)

Until next time,

Wardrobe Additions: November

Hello “TinyInTorontonians”!! (LOL) Here I am with the second month of “Wardrobe Additions”. For this month’s edition, I’m just going to share with you the pieces that I picked up from work (a.k.a. Topshop). Now when you see the number of items I have to share you’re going to be like, “Omg, you spend so much money. You’re crazy!!” – You know what? You’re probably right.

BUT – this month I won a $50 gift card and had accumulated enough reward points to get some of this stuff (like 3 items) FOR FREE. Yeah. Also, I get a pretty good discount (60% off) and some were also on sale. I just thought I’d defend myself a bit here, cause I definitely could never afford this much at full price. Sad, but true.

On to less depressing things! Here’s what I picked up from Topshop:

dscn24850dscn24900dscn24930dscn24980dscn25010dscn25050dscn25090

Yes, the first three items are VELVET. I think I’ve got enough velvet to last me the season now. I don’t want to get TOO carried away so I think these three pieces are just fine. I got two velvet dresses, one is a slip dress and the other a skater dress. I think the slip dress I could also get away with wearing in the Summer – that’s a bonus!  I also got a black velvet bat-winged sweater. I’m so excited about this piece (Trust me, I’m excited about all of them!!), but I really like how the velvet aspect of this sweater makes it easy to wear more formally. I could probably wear it with a fancy skirt and some statement earrings and be okay to go out to dinner! I love that. Next is this neutral-coloured blazer that’s very light and breezy. I got it on sale and I think it’s going to be a great piece to throw on top of my outfits all year round. The floral dress beside it in the pictures above is probably the dress I’ll be wearing around this time of year/holiday season. I could probably wear the velvet one as well, but I’m thinking this black floral print will be great to wear to a Christmas Mass or dinner, or something.

Finally, we have the camel crombie coat. Topshop comes out with a version of this coat every year, and I had *always* wanted one! I finally got around to getting it when it was half off on Black Friday. I think this coat will come in handy to wear over more formal attires, like dresses. Most of my coats are more casual, so I think this was a wise decision and definitely something that will benefit my wardrobe!

All of these items, like I said earlier, were purchased at Topshop. All mostly from the Petite section, but you can definitely find of few of these pieces in the regular line as well. I can’t wait to take outfit pictures with these pieces. I am way past due for an outfit post!! Hopefully I’ll have one for you guys next week *fingers crossed* (Low key already have plans for one ;)) hehe)

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Until next time,
