February ’17 Inspiration

March is fast-approaching! To me, that means it’s time for a new “Inspiration” post! If you’re a new reader, every month I try to share pictures I’ve stumbled upon on the internet that have inspired my style throughout the month. For the month of February I’ve definitely been loving a mixture of things you guys already know I love. I’ve just been more adventurous lately. I know my style is a bit different than most people, but I think I’ve been comfortable taking more risks. This month I’ve been embracing colours and fun pieces. I love things that are out of the ordinary. Combining pieces that don’t necessarily match but still manage to work well together, that’s what I’ve been loving. It’s definitely not easy because I’m also worried about having pieces that I won’t be able to wear in years to come. You’ve got be wise/savvy. That’s the marvelous thing about Fashion! Self-expression, being creative, and the ability to still do it on a budget!

Specific pieces that I wore a lot this month were patterned blouses, Converse sneakers, basic t-shirts, striped anything, and straight jeans. I mixed patterns, I played with colours, and I wore some statement accessories (especially earrings) as well. I definitely want to continue to grow and become more comfortable expressing myself. I have to admit that I do still think of the kind of looks I’ll get on the bus or what people will think of me while at work. I want to overcome that! I just want to do me.

Also, I really just want to share all my looks. Just to have a place to document and see my growth in terms of my taste and style with what I wear. I need a steady photographer. If you guys know of anyone in the Toronto area who would like to take pictures once or twice a week (for free/for practice), send them my way!

Alright, I think I’ve rambled enough for today. I hope you guys are satisfied with how your Februarys turned out. If you did anything exciting within the last month, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Until next time,

My SS17 Trend Guide!

If you’re a fashion junkie like myself, you pay attention to the trends. I try my best to stay away from things that are “too trendy” but I have to admit that I do like to play around with a few of them. Before I thought about writing a blog post, I tried to think some current trends.. and I couldn’t really think of anything! I feel like we’re kind of stuck in that transition period at the moment, so the trends aren’t really that noticeable.

That being said, I think this means that this is the perfect time to introduce the trends for SS17 (if you don’t already know them!) To be honest, this is a blog post but more so a “note-to-self” ha-ha. I want to come back to this during the Spring/Summer and see how much of these trends I’ve actually noticed in stores/ have incorporated into my wardrobe. Wouldn’t that be kind of neat? This is also great for you guys because I’m sharing the trends that I think you’ll see a lot of, but I also think these trends will be the most wearable during the season. There were definitely more trends than what I’m about to share, but I think these 5 are the ones you really need to know. This is just my opinion!

So I did some research and looked at what was seen during the SS17 Fashion Week(s) and I have to say that I loved it all (well most of it). I think the trends that I picked create the perfect guide to what you’ll need to know for the upcoming Spring/Summer season. Some of it was introduced a bit last year and is coming back in full force, and some of it is new too! Now let’s just get right into it! Here are 5 trends that you should know for next season:

L-R: Prada, Celine, Prada, Miu Miu

1. BRALETTES – Were you over them? I hope not! “The bralette” is making a comeback, guys! Instead of by itself and with something high-waisted. Bralettes next season are to be worn over button-up shirts or t-shirts/graphic Ts. Just think to layer with them! I’m excited because I definitely did this a few times last year and people thought I was crazy. Now I can wear this trend with a bit more confidence lol. If you’d like some inspiration for this trend, Miu Miu, Celine, and Prada demonstrated this trend beautifully in their SS17 runway shows.

L-R: Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Valentino, Bottega Veneta

2. PINK/FUCHSIA – Think PINK during the next season because you’re going to see A LOT of it! Fuchsia was probably the form of pink that was most seen on the runway for next season and I’m NOT complaining. I have fuchsia trousers that I love and will not be mad about wearing all Spring/Summer long. Some designers you can see for inspiration are: Bottega Veneta, Valentino, and Balenciaga. (I’m like, drooling over the Valentino cape-dress thing! Maybe a fuchsia coat/jacket is something I should look for..)

L-R: Alexander Wang, Jacquemus, Marques Almeida, Marques Almeida

3. DECONSTRUCTED SHIRTING/STATEMENT SLEEVES – Yeah, this is kind of an ambiguous category. This trend basically involves chopped sleeves, LONG sleeves, sleeves with slits, or shirts that have extra sleeves, collars, or cuffs. It’s an interesting trend, but definitely DIY-friendly! You literally could hack a thrifted button-up shirt and call it a day. OR you could take any button-up shirt and just button it up wrong and slide it off your shoulder! At least that’s how I’m interpreting it. Another way you could look at it is take any shirt that is oversized or off the shoulder and you’ll be good to go. If what I’m saying is not making any sense to you, look at Alexander Wang, Marques Almeida, and Jacquemus’ collections for SS17.

L-R: Gucci, Balenciaga, Celine, Saint Laurent

4. EIGHTIES/OVERSIZED SILHOUETTE – Think “power shoulders” and puffball sleeves. There isn’t really much else to say. The eighties kind of speaks for itself. All I can picture are suits with massive shoulders *shivers*. Not sure how well I’ll get along with this trend. I think “power shoulders” might not look as great on my teeny frame but I’ll give it a shot! Puffball sleeves will maybe work more for me? I guess we’ll have to see! Some designers that portrayed the eighties at its finest are: Saint Laurent, Gucci, Celine, and Balenciaga!

L-R: Dior, Rochas, Molly Goddard, Dries Van Noten

5. TULLE – Probably one of the trends I’m most excited for. I took ballet classes as a child and didn’t make it past the first class. My mom says I cried my eyes out because it was too hard. Sounds like me lol. When I learned about this trend, I thought this was PERFECT for “wannabe ballerinas” like myself. Tulle will be mostly seen in skirt form and from what I’ve read, it will be EVERYWHERE. I already see the trend making it’s way through some pieces we have at Topshop right now. (I’m guilty of already buying a skirt.. oops.) Check out Dior, Dries Van Noten, Rochas, and Molly Goddard for some inspo!

So there you have it! My Spring/Summer 2017 Trend Guide. I hope it is useful in some way to you! If you like this post, make sure to let me know in a comment below. I really enjoyed writing this one. It definitely took a bit more work, considering I had do a bit of research and look at a lot of photos, but I loved it! What I would love even more is if I could actually attend these fashion shows and report from there. Ah, the dream.. I think I might make a similar post for FW17, what do you think?

Thanks for reading! I hope you’re all having a great Tuesday so far!

Until next time,

January Inspiration ’17

Hello, friends. I’m here with the first inspiration post of 2017!!! AHH!! Where did the time go?! I can’t believe that January is coming to an end already. I’m not going to lie, but I feel like I’ve had a great start to 2017. I just recently was promoted to a management position at work! I feel very motivated and determined, not just about work, but just in terms of life. I feel like I have everything in order right now. I know it sounds corny. I just feel really positive and happy, and I hope these feelings will continue in the months to come :))

Since I’ve been in a real positive mindset, I’ve been very comfortable going out of my comfort zone in terms of style. I’ve become more confident! I’ve been trying new things and experimenting with patterns and colours even more than before! I’ve been really into creating full looks and have gone as far as styling my hair!! If you know me, I have never been big on styling my hair. Normally, I’ll blow dry it a bit then let the rest air dry. That’s it! But lately I’ve been putting my curling wand to good use, and I actually kind of like it lol.

Now for my inspiration this month, the majority of it is more colourful. I love prints/patterns, I love mixing patterns, and I love BRIGHT colours. I really want to make a statement and maybe create a real brand for myself. I want to focus on really figuring out what my style really is, and how to best compliment my petite figure. For 2017, I want to find a way to benefit and really help other women who are tiny in terms of style and how to dress. Take a look at this month’s inspiration photos!!! –>

I don’t know about you but I’m so excited to see what 2017 brings me! I really want to accomplish a lot and make this year really count – but only time will tell!

I hope you guys are having a great week so far! :))

Until next time,

Outfit: Gucci Inspired

Yo, and hello! I am very, very, very happy to finally be saying that I HAVE AN OUTFIT POST TO SHARE. Thanks to my friend Ken (Instagram: @kenifromtheblock), I have some shots of an outfit I wore earlier this week!! This particular outfit was inspired by a look I found while browsing the internet. It was a photo of some looks from Fashion Week last year. I was more so loving the center picture/the Gucci look, so I chose to try and recreate it. (I loooove Gucci!) Here’s the photo:

Now my take isn’t as colourful or “out there” as Gucci’s, which I think is what makes my look a bit more wearable. I really like the look of the “pussybow” (it’s what they call it, I swear!). I get Parisian vibes and it makes the look feel a bit more classy/sharp. It’s definitely more feminine and romantic as well. This has me pretty sure that I want to add a blouse with a pussybow to my wardrobe. For my version of the look, I used one of those skinny scarves from Zara and tried to tie it the same way as the picture. My scarf wasn’t as structured as the one in the inspiration photo, but I think it still kind of worked! I was also obsessed with the sleeves of the top from the Gucci look, and I had the perfect sweater to recreate it. Now here’s my take on the Gucci “Pussybow” look!

What do you think? Do YOU like the look? Did I do alright at recreating it? I kind of enjoyed recreating a look from the runway and making it more wearable. Should I do a post like this again? I would love your feedback!

I hope you’re all having a great week so far! I wanna thank Ken again for taking pictures! You all should go check out his Instagram! He’s got great style! (www.instagram.com/kenifromtheblock)  Happy Wednesday/hump day!

Until next time,

Style Stalking: The Olsen Twins

Hi guys! I don’t know what happened, but I saw this photo of one of the Olsen twins on Tumblr.. and it just triggered this huge obsession. I have always thought the Olsen twins were fashion icons, but this photo (it wasn’t even THAT great of an outfit) just inspired me. I can’t explain it. I was just really digging the look, so then I googled and looked at more Olsen looks. I think I spent a good hour just stalking their style and trying to find an affordable croc textured tote bag lol. I can’t believe I never gave them more of my attention. I can’t believe I forgot about them!! I love their style. I love how sophisticated their looks are. They’re SO CHIC. Mary-Kate and Ashley are two very classy ladies, and I adore them. Their outfits look so effortless. I also can’t believe how easy their looks are to recreate. A few key things when it comes to the Olsen twins’ style: black, croc textured bags, loafers, anything oversized, and more black. They like scarves and clothing pieces that drape/have no shape. I know I said that I was trying to steer away from black, but they’ve really sold me on simple black pieces (like skinny jeans, cigarette trousers, long overcoats, and sweaters). They have the best monochromatic/neutral/tonal looks. I think most of their wardrobe is either white, black, or grey. These twins also know how to play with texture – they’re fashion pros! While stalking, I also browsed their website “Elizabeth and James”, and I would kill to have a piece of their collection. Preferably one of their croc leather bags because they certainly have a strong purse/bag game – and this is coming from the ultimate bag lady herself. Below are photos that I saved while I went crazy googling the Olsen twins.

Do you get what I’m saying about the croc leather bags?!! I hope I don’t sound like a lunatic while I rant about the Olsen twins lol. Hopefully, there’s a few of you who agree with me? If not, at least this gave you a good laugh.

Have a happy Friday, everyone!

I <3 the 70s

As a fashion student, I am well aware that fashion typically runs in a cycle. The Fashion Cycle. Eventually, everything comes back into style. Based on the fashion shows that appeared in the Fall, most fashion trends in 2015 will be based on looks from the 70s!!! This excites me! After learning a lot about fashion history, I’d have to say that the 1970s is my favorite decade. When I’m working at Topshop, I see so many pieces that are 70s-inspired and I’m like #IGOTTAHAVETHIS. I also have parents coming in saying, “Holy smokes! This is what I wore at your age!” Basically, I am fully prepared to embrace this trend. There’s flared pants or “bell bottoms”, “psychedelic” prints, wide floral prints, fringe, and an interesting selection of vibrant colors. This year I don’t think I’ll be able to resist/avoid trying some color. I am also completely obsessed with the prints. I now gravitate towards them, which isn’t normally like me! I’m gradually beginning to add some life/character into my wardrobe (Hallelujah!). Here are some photos that I’ve accumulated as parts of my personal trendboard for this 70s trend. Some of you may not be a fan. It’s definitely a change from the simplistic and minimalistic pieces that we’ve seen during the past year or so – which now I find that so basic! (C’mon! Spice up your life!) Even if you’re not a fan of the 70s, it’s only the beginning of the year. Who knows what other trends we’ll start to see!
