MUST READ: The Tearling Series

dscn2584

I don’t even know where to start! Within the last month or so, I’ve read¬†ALL THREE¬†books to this series by Erika Johansen. (I just finished the¬†third book last night!)¬†This is a pretty big deal if you consider the fact that it took me almost three months to finish the novel I read before this series. I think the reason I read three books in such a shorter period of time is that I honestly couldn’t put these down!! If you love fantasy novels and books that are based on a girl who kicks butt, then this is a book for you! I’m not trying to harp on the whole feminism thing, but it was really refreshing to read a novel where the girl is¬†headstrong and a visionary leader.

The series is about a girl named Kelsea Raleigh, but she prefers the last name Glynn.¬†She’s the¬†future Queen¬†of the Tearling (which is a separate realm or something). Before Kelsea became Queen, the Tearling was corrupt and unjust.¬†Over the course of these three books, Kelsea has to face a number of enemies. Her ultimate enemy: the evil Red Queen.¬†For years the Red Queen has had the Tearling under her thumb,¬†due to an agreement¬†Kelsea’s mother had made¬†years ago.¬†The Red Queen demands that¬†the Tearling send her a shipment of Tears once a month, so that they can be sold as¬†slaves to her people in Mortmesne. It’s pretty messed up. In exchange for the monthly shipments of people, the Red Queen has agreed to give them “peace” and to not invade their land. Of¬†course Kelsea puts a stop to these shipments, and when¬†the Red Queen doesn’t receive her shipment, she’s ready¬†for war/invasion.¬†Not only does Kelsea have to figure out a way to put a stop to the invasion and save her people, but there’s so much more going on inside her and her¬†kingdom as well. There’s these two sapphire necklaces that are passed down to Kelsea. Only a true Tear can control them and use their power.¬†Since putting them on her neck, all these weird things have been happening to Kelsea. It seems like they’re more so controlling her. She’s got strength she never knew she had, she can heal, the jewels¬†have altered her appearance, and they can take her back in time as well! I’m pretty sure I’m butchering this story (I’m a reader, not a writer lol), but if that doesn’t get you even the slightest bit interested – you’re crazy! Just kidding, I know Fantasy novels are not everyone’s cup of tea. But they sure are mine!! I want to share everything that happens in order to convince you, but I also don’t want to ruin¬†this series¬†for anyone (if I haven’t already :p).

All I can say, is that I HIGHLY recommend you guys giving these books a shot. The end of the series was not what I expected, but¬†I really think you can learn something from this series if you have an open mind. I’m rather sad they had to end.. But there were online rumours of Emma Watson staring in a future movie, so maybe it’s not over! Until then, you guys should get reading ūüėČ

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Until next time,

Blue Suede Shoes

Hi everyone! I’m back with a post that is all about one pair of shoes. If that doesn’t tell you how much I love them, I don’t know what else will ha-ha. These are my favourite shoes of Summer 2016. Why? Well, let me tell you.

Let me start off by saying that my feet are tiny. I have baby feet. I am lucky if a woman’s size 5 shoe fits me, and if that doesn’t fit, I usually buy the kid’s version. These gorgeous blue suede mules are from Topshop.¬†If you guys don’t already know, I work there Full Time now. I’ve been an employee for almost two years and not once did I ever find a pair of shoes that fit me perfectly. Of course, I’ve bought shoes from Topshop before but I had to buy insoles to make them fit properly. The smallest shoe size that Topshop carries in Canada¬†is typically a 5.5. When I saw these mules, they came in size 4.5! So obviously, I felt like I had to buy them because never again will this happen. Like I’m telling you, the fact that we had a pair in a size 4.5 is a HUGE rarity. So yeah, I bought them. Duh. And I love them. Double Duh.

I wear them with almost anything. You would assume that because they’re blue, which is not necessarily a neutral colour, they wouldn’t go with much. Like I’ve said, they actually go well with a lot. I love pairing them with denim. I love how they can make a boring outfit more fun. They’re a great little pop of colour and definitely different from the rest of the shoes in my closet. ALSO, they’re comfortable! I can do a full shift with these guys on and it will be bearable.

It’s sad that Summer has come to an end and I probably won’t wear them again for a while. But I hope you guys love these shoes as much as I do! If not, maybe you’ve enjoyed my passion for them? I am very passionate about these shoes and I can’t wait to wear them again next year.

Hope you guys are having a fabulous Monday!

Until next time,

June Inspiration’16

Hey lovely human¬†beings! It’s that time of the month again! I’m back to share with you my collection of photos/inspiration for the month. As I look over the photos that I have collected throughout the month of June, I’ve noticed a lot of common things – denim, for one! I don’t understand how some people can hate wearing jeans, or even denim in general! Denim is classic! Jeans are going to be around forever. Recycled denim is the best! I love love love denim. I could go on, but then it’ll start to get a little weird. You get my point, right? Denim = Win.

Anyways, from¬†looking at these photos, you guys can probably tell that I’ve been enjoying a good t-shirt paired with jeans. You really can’t go wrong. Whether it be a graphic tee or a nice blouse, I’ve been wearing it with a pair of jeans and a few accessories, and then¬†I’ve been good to go! Keeping it minimal is kind of key. Summer really calls for simplicity because who wants to layer when it’s hot and humid?

I’ve also been loving pink. It’s really strange because I went from owning zero pink items in my closet, to owning like five. What is going on here?! Honestly, it’s so out of the ordinary for me to love pink so much that I am most definitely going to dedicate a blog post to just pink outfits. I’ve been seeing this color everywhere, am I crazy? I’m drawn to it, and I’m not complaining! Stay tuned for that post btw. I have a full blown list of blog post ideas, it’s finding the time to take pictures that’s the problem.

I really want to do a blog post on chokers, printed socks, pink (like I’ve already said), thrift finds, and bodysuits! On top of that, I really want to collaborate with other bloggers, as well as get this YouTube ball rolling! My memory card is currently with my mother because she wanted my graduation photos, but as soon as she gets it back to me, we’re good to go!

Also, I want my room to be a little more put together and decorated before it’s shared all over the internet. You feel me, right?

That’s everything for today’s post! I hope I’ve inspired you guys in some way or entertained you or whatever ha-ha. As always, I love blogging and sharing my thoughts on here.I’ve really started to notice how my style is evolving and maturing as time goes by. Hopefully, and I mean HOPEFULLY, I can blog and post more frequently than I have. I’m really starting to understand why some bloggers don’t have jobs. I mean, I get why blogging is a job on its own. This stuff is hard work..¬†Enough rambling!

Hope you guys are having a terrific Monday (at least as terrific as Mondays can be)!

Until next time,

Cuckoo for Culottes

Hello hello! I’m am so glad that¬†I can say that I have an outfit post for you guys this week! This is the fourth (and last *sadface*)¬†set of photos taken by the talented Joanna Dass. This outfit was created around these burnt orange culottes (perfect colour for Fall!)¬†that I actually love even more now that I’m looking at these photos again. They are a bit on the longer side but with heeled booties they don’t look¬†too shabby. I purchased these culottes from Aritzia. They’re not from Topshop! – That’s a shocker ha-ha. What I like about them most is that they are loose and air-y! They’re so comfy! We were a little worried about the lighting of these photos but I think the outfit actually¬†works well¬†with it! What do you think?¬†I’m getting real edgy vibes.. I look tough, right? (LOL)

Anywho! Here are the pictures, I hope you like them!

Dungaree Daze

I have an OUTFIT POST! Man, who would have¬†thought I’d get around to making one of these anytime soon eh? Well I’m proud to say that I found time to get some pictures taken. I knew that if I was going to make another outfit post, my next one had to be of me in my dungarees. I could live in dungarees for the rest of my life. They’re just so comfortable and in my opinion, stylish. I feel super cool when I wear them –¬†and again,¬†that’s just my personal opinion! I understand if some people think they’re ridiculous or dumb, or maybe a little juvenile. I can’t lie and say that I don’t love them though. Going to the bathroom is rather annoying.. I’m always afraid a strap is going to dip into the toilet… but it’s all worth it! The dungarees/overalls that I’m wearing in these pictures are from Topshop. Like, where else would I get them haha?¬†I adore the classic denim wash. A true blue! I feel like I’ll be able to wear these for a long time. I mean, not only is the¬†wash timeless but¬†it’s not like I’m going to grow anytime soon (unfortunately).. right?

Summer Suede

Hi friends! I‚Äôm baaack with another outfit post! This outfit consists of two things I‚Äôve been currently loving, camel suede and that darn button up skirt! Are you sick of seeing it yet? I promise that I‚Äôm keeping it at two ha-ha! This one in particular is white, and also from Topshop. I picked white because I don’t have any bottoms in my closet that are white. I was considering getting pants but this skirt just seemed like the perfect choice. My top is from Zara and it’s real suede leather. It’s¬†got that weird leather smell but I love the look¬†and the texture that it brings to my outfit.¬†What do you think? Take a look!!

Monthly Favourites: May 2015

Hey everyone! It’s that time again! June is officially here and that means¬†that I can share what I loved during the month of May. Firstly, I wanna say that June is the best month of all months. Not only does it mark the official beginning of summer, BUT IT’S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH (WOOT WOOT)!! “I don’t know about you.. but I’m turning twenty-twooo..” Actually though. I’m turning TWENTY-TWO. Am I old now? I really don’t know how I feel about it, so I’m just going to leave it at that haha.

DSCN2113

On to my favourites!! There weren’t very many fashion items that I loved during the month of May. I got many new pieces in preparation for summer, so there will definitely be tons of fashion favourites in the months to come. Some fashion items that I DID love during the month of May are my denim button-up skirt (which you all must know about by now haha.. I’ve talked about it enough :p), my children’s Adidas sneakers, and my new $4 canvas tote. The denim button-up skirt is self-explanatory. It’s amazing. I love it. Definitely going to wear the crap out of it. I don’t think I’ve quite introduced my Adidas babies though. They’re a children’s size 2. They have velcro. Need I say more baha? I thought it was a different take on the Adidas sneakers that are trending at the moment.¬†They also fit me a heck of a lot better because they’re made for my baby feet. I know that velcro may seem ugly to some people, but I feel like we might see more velcro in the future? So far, it’s just¬†me and Jared Leto. I love them. The last fashion favourite is the canvas tote that I purchased from Kensington market. It may be a little hipster, but I find it very handy when carrying lunches or an extra pair of shoes to work. There is no doubt in my mind that I used this bag for 20 out of the 31 days in May.

My other three favourites are a movie, a TV show, and a book. Avengers: Age of Ultron came out last month. I know it’s not typical for a girly girl like me to enjoy movies like Avengers, but without hesitation I can say that this movie is my favourite. I love Marvel movies. I also love all the Transformer movies.¬†Those who know me well would say I’m sort of a geek. Speaking of geeks, a TV show that I discovered on Netflix during the month of May was Freaks and Geeks. Unfortunately there was only the one season, so I finished it pretty quick.. but¬†I loved it nonetheless! I recognized so many faces!! They¬†were all so young and talented. James Franco, Jason Segal, Seth Rogan, Shia LaBeouf, Lizzy Caplan (from Mean Girls), Leslie Mann (The Other Women and This is 40), and Linda Cardellini (she was in Avengers: Age of Ultron!!). These are only a FEW of the familiar faces!! Honestly, you just have to watch it. It’s so funny and original. It’s the best! You’ll enjoy it, I GUARANTEE IT. My final favourite for the month of May is a book. I read a lot of good books during the month of May. Three to be exact. I am so happy I got to read more than one. I’ve been dying to read for months and now I have some time to fully dedicate to reading. A book that stood out to me was Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. If you aren’t familiar with her, she is also the author of Gone Girl (the movie is on Netflix now!)¬†which is another book I really enjoyed. It was a very thrilling novel. That’s all I can really say without giving it away!¬†If you liked Gone Girl, you’ll love this one.

That concludes my May Favourites! I hope you enjoyed them! PLEASE consider watching Freaks and Geeks, Avengers: Age of Ultron, or even start reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn! They were all so so good!

Hope you’re having a happy Friday!

Until next time!
