DIY Frayed-Hem Jeans

I’m here with something new and exciting! Like I’ve said in my previous post, I’ve been really motivated and determined lately. That means that I’m also motivated and determined to blog more and come up with some different content! In today’s post, I’m going to share with you a little do-it-yourself project that I did the other day. I DIY’d my own pair of frayed-hem jeans!

I got this sick pair of gray straight-leg jeans from work for $10. That’s right TEN DOLLARS. When I bought them they were waaay too long for me, but they fit perfectly around my waist! For $10, I racked my brain for an idea on how I could make them work. I mean, I could have got them hemmed for another $10 but who wants to do that?! Lol, not me!! I decided to hem them myself, and even better, I decided I wanted a FRAYED hem. We sell them at Topshop for almost $100. I love them and wanted them until I realized I could probably make them myself!! So I did and now here we are. Not only am I going to show you how they turned out, but I’m going to show you how I made them in case you guys want to try doing this yourselves! Here we go!

Things you’ll need:

dscn25311

  1. Jeans – you could use an old pair, or even thrift a pair!
  2. Scissors (preferably fabric scissors, but I lost mine..)
  3. Tweezers
  4. Pencil or Chalk
  5. Measuring Tape

Step One:

dscn25341

Lay out your jeans and measure them to your desired length. Then draw a line for yourself to follow while you cut! Keep in mind that you’re going to need an inch or so for the frayed part. Side note: It looks like I cut off three inches from the bottom of my jeans.. I ended up cutting an extra inch. #shortgirlproblems Also, you don’t NEED to measure it out, draw a line, etc. If you’re comfortable eye-balling it, by all means go for it!! It’ll probably look more natural if you do it that way. I’m just a neat freak.

Step Two:

dscn25391

If you’ve measured where you want to cut them, cut away! If you’re eye-balling it, cut away! *TIP: Try the jeans on after! See where they sit! If you want them shorter, measure it out and cut some more!

Step Three:

dscn25441

Take your measuring tape again and measure from the bottom of your jeans to where you’d like your fraying/fringe to start. I measured one and a quarter inch. Draw another line across then instead of cutting across, cut up towards that line and make even little strips. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DESTROY A SIDE SEAM. That may cause you problems in the future!

Step Four:

dscn25511dscn25531

Take a good and close look at one of those little strips. You’ll notice that there are threads going vertically and horizontally. This is how we’re going to make it fray. Loosen up the threads a bit with your fingers. Then take your tweezers and start to pull away all the horizontal/white threads until you each the end of the strip. We don’t want those guys! Do this to every strip all the way around the leg.

This is what it should look like once you’ve done a few strips:

dscn25611

And once you’ve finished all the strips on BOTH legs, this is what they’ll look like!! 🙂

I’m so happy with how these turned out. I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I had a lot of fun putting this together. If you’d like more DIYs, let me know in the comment section below!

Happy Tuesday!

January Inspiration ’17

Hello, friends. I’m here with the first inspiration post of 2017!!! AHH!! Where did the time go?! I can’t believe that January is coming to an end already. I’m not going to lie, but I feel like I’ve had a great start to 2017. I just recently was promoted to a management position at work! I feel very motivated and determined, not just about work, but just in terms of life. I feel like I have everything in order right now. I know it sounds corny. I just feel really positive and happy, and I hope these feelings will continue in the months to come :))

Since I’ve been in a real positive mindset, I’ve been very comfortable going out of my comfort zone in terms of style. I’ve become more confident! I’ve been trying new things and experimenting with patterns and colours even more than before! I’ve been really into creating full looks and have gone as far as styling my hair!! If you know me, I have never been big on styling my hair. Normally, I’ll blow dry it a bit then let the rest air dry. That’s it! But lately I’ve been putting my curling wand to good use, and I actually kind of like it lol.

Now for my inspiration this month, the majority of it is more colourful. I love prints/patterns, I love mixing patterns, and I love BRIGHT colours. I really want to make a statement and maybe create a real brand for myself. I want to focus on really figuring out what my style really is, and how to best compliment my petite figure. For 2017, I want to find a way to benefit and really help other women who are tiny in terms of style and how to dress. Take a look at this month’s inspiration photos!!! –>

I don’t know about you but I’m so excited to see what 2017 brings me! I really want to accomplish a lot and make this year really count – but only time will tell!

I hope you guys are having a great week so far! :))

Until next time,

Wardrobe Additions: October

I am super excited to share with you guys a new type of blog post! I was trying to come up with more ideas for blog posts and when I thought of this one, I was shocked I had never thought of it before! Honestly though, am I dumb? I’m a fashion nut and shop-aholic, why would I NOT share the new pieces I add to my wardrobe? I mean, I add more than enough clothes to my wardrobe in a month that I might as well share them. So here are this month’s finds!

For the month of October I really focused on adding some new Fall pieces to my wardrobe. I think I may have purchased more than what I am about to show you, but I can’t quite remember. I don’t know if this means that I have a more serious problem than I thought, but I think this could be the majority of it all. I went shopping the other day and over the weekend, so I feel like I have enough to share anyway ha-ha. Mind you, all of it is thrifted!! *proud smile* I didn’t drop huge amounts of $$$ on this stuff. I’m a college graduate with debt up to her ears after all.

Just take a look at my new additions below! Also, if you wanna see some of them on me, check out my Instagram! (www.instagram.com/tinyintoronto)

dscn24691-2dscn24761-2dscn24801-2dscn24811-2dscn24831-2dscn24841-3

Overall I think I bought 7 thrifted pieces. Six tops and one dress. I usually only buy tops because it’s such a difficult task trying to find me bottoms in a thrift store. Thank goodness the oversized look is in or I wouldn’t have found as much – seriously. I did get lucky and found some XS pieces and the dress I found FIT ME LIKE A GLOVE. It was a moment to remember.

Let me talk a bit about each piece. In the first photo, I have a camel long sleeve polo/button-up thing, a velour mock neck thing, and a lace-y/tie-up blouse thing. Wow, what great descriptions. The camel colored piece looks awesome underneath my denim pinafores/dresses and also paired with skirts! It’s an XS and I think it fits me quite nicely! The velour mock neck top is definitely what I was looking for/talking about in my velvet post. This is the piece that I’m going to use to experiment with textures and “velvet”. I can picture this brown velour top with black skinnies or my pleather skirt. It’s gonna be fun. Thirdly, there’s this tie-up/lace-y thing that gives me solid Free People vibes. I think it really emulates that boho-chic look. It’s also an XS and fits me quite nicely :)) I’ll probably get most of my wear out of it during the summer though.

The next four pieces are pretty interesting as well. There’s a Manny Pacquiao graphic tee that I love (*filipino pride*), a floral/Fall printed/velvet textured t-shirt, a vintage button-up with a sick print and sick sleeves to match (check Instagram!), and last but not least, the traditional oriental dress (THAT FITS ME LIKE A GLOVE). The Manny Pacquiao graphic tee I’ve already worn. I think it’s going to be that t-shirt that I gravitate towards the most on my days off. It’s just cool and chill, and I like it lol. The floral printed t-shirt covered in Fall colours is another one of those texture-testing pieces. Probably will look great paired with mom jeans or something. The vintage button-up with the sick print is one of my new favourite blouses. I think I can tuck it in into literally anything I want: trousers, skirts, jeans, dresses/pinafores – anything. The sleeves are an ultimate bonus! They’re kind of bell-shaped? Think “pirate”. Last but not least, THE DRESS. Check Instagram because I still can’t believe how well it fit me. I was walking towards the cashier and this dress caught my eye. It only took seconds after seeing it for me to snatch it up and run back to the change room. The lady working in the change room probably thought I was a freak (I was grinning and kind of bouncing with the dress in my hands lol). I LOVE IT. I had been subconsciously looking for a dress like this, and low and behold, I found one.

So there you have it! My first installment of my “Wardrobe Additions” series. I’m not going to lie, this is my second time writing this post and I am little unimpressed/annoyed. I blame my internet. Or maybe WordPress didn’t want to save it for me. IDK. However, I am still quite excited to share these posts within the upcoming months. I have no clue whether or not it’s going to remain a monthly thing though. What if I have such an amazing shopping trip that I don’t want to wait until the end of the month to share it? I might just go crazy and share it then and there! :O

I do have another project up my sleeve. Keep those peepers open for my first vlog in a very, very, verrrry long time. It’s SUPER amateur, but it was fun and I wanna share it! Stay tuned!

I hope you’re all having a good day!

Until next time,

October Inspiration 2016

I’m here with my fashion inspiration photos of the month! You guys know how this goes. So for the month of October, according to all the photos I reblogged on Tumblr, I was inspired by chunky knits, velvet, tailored clothing/menswear, graphic tees, fishnets, sparkly things, and denim (as per usual lol). My love for turtlenecks has also been rekindled – yay! I’m patiently waiting for the perfect time to whip out my beret! Oh myyy, there’s so much I am looking forward to wearing this Fall/Winter!! Take a look below! I have TWENTY photos to share!! AH!

What fashion pieces/clothing items are your favourite during the Fall/Winter season? I’d love to know in the comments below!

Also, I have some exciting things coming your way! I VLOGGED a few days ago and I am so excited to edit it and share it with you guys. It was recorded on my iPhone, so it’s not my best camera skills but I enjoyed recording nonetheless – and I hope you guys will like it too! Another project I’m working on is a new series called “Wardrobe Additions”! I’m not sure if it’s going to be a monthly thing or a “play by ear” kind of thing, but I’m going to make blog posts on all the my pieces (whether thrifted or bought from Topshop lol), and share them with you all here! Exciting, no?!

I don’t want to give away too much, but I’m hoping I’ll get to share both these projects with you guys within the next week or so.

Until then, I hope you all have a great weekend! Happy Friday!

Love or Hate: Velvet

I’ve been nuts about velvet lately. I haven’t really gone crazy by adding a lot to my wardrobe yet (with the exception of a black velvet/embroidered bomber LOL), but I’ve definitely been appreciating velvet pieces while shopping this season. Velvet is 100% a trend right now. I love it, but I’m still a little cautious when it comes to pairing with it. As I write this post, I’m starting to think that maybe I should thrift a few velvet-y pieces and try styling them before I splurge on a cute pair of velvet pants or whatever at the mall. Sounds sensible, right? What are your guys’ feelings towards velvet?

Me? I love the look of textures. I love the idea of playing with textures. However, finding the confidence to actually go out in a multi-textured outfit is still a bit of a struggle. Then again, sometimes I’m wearing multiple textures without even realizing it! I just think that when done the wrong way, velvet could look tacky. I sometimes relate velvet to velour, and then I think of those Juicy Couture tracksuits and go “yuck”. But according to some articles those tracksuits are coming back, so I don’t even know anymore!! Below are some of the ways I’d want to style velvet. Let me know in the comments below if you like them :))

HAPPY MONDAAY!!

P.S. Having a laptop instead of a tablet is so much more motivating! Writing blog posts has never been easier!! It feels like a luxury LOL. Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that as long as I can come up with new ideas, I’m going to blog as often as I can!! So get ready. #blogpostsonblogposts

My Top 5 Favourite Bloggers

Hello everyone! I’m back this week with a different kind of blog post. Today I will be sharing with you my top 5 favourite bloggers. Basically, the five bloggers that I follow religiously (slash stalk). Many of you who are fashion junkies, like myself, probably already know these bloggers or have heard of them. But maybe to some of you these names are unfamiliar. If they are, that’s great! You’ll learn about some new bloggers and can start stalking them too! YAY. All five of these bloggers are insanely stylish and if you are unfamiliar with a few of them, you should definitely check them out!

On to my list!

Leandra-Medine-Man-Repeller-ManRepeller-by-STYLEDUMONDE-Street-Style-Fashion-Blog_MG_3842

1. Man Repeller – Leandra Medine

I won’t judge or anything but if you haven’t heard of “The Man Repeller”, you must be living under a rock. She’s so funny and witty, and her book is amazing! I love her sense of humour and her style is equally terrific! There really isn’t much to say about her, she’s like a super fashion blogger. Godly. She’s a real inspiration!

natalie-off-duty-seoul-gyeongbokgung-13

2. Natalie Off Duty – Natalia Suarez

Natalia is a model and her blog is typically full of the outfits that she wears when she’s “off duty” (go figure!). I’m obsessed. She has great taste and I just love her overall look. I aspire to dress more like her. Like Leandra, she isn’t afraid of patterns or colour and no matter what the combination, her outfit looks amazing.

3. Song of Style – Aimee Song

I follow Aimee on snapchat and I have to say that her personality really surprised me. Her looks are always polished and sophisticated. You wouldn’t guess that she’s a complete goofball. Her snapchat account is “songofstyle”. She’s really cool and although I loved her style before snapchat, her personality makes me love her more.

4. Fashion Toast – Rumi Neely

I find that Rumi is probably the one out of these five that I would dress like the least. She dresses a bit more provocative, but it’s still tasteful ha-ha. I love her style, she’s very girly and flirty. Super cool. She has her own clothing line and I quite like it. Her pieces look simple and of great quality.

5. We Wore What – Danielle Bernstein

Danielle Bernstein was my most favourite blogger but I think my style has evolved. I can no longer relate to her, although I will always love her blog. I still share a love of overalls with her too. Her pictures are some of my favourite and I religiously watch her snap stories lol.

This concludes my top 5 favourite bloggers. If you guys have any blogs you want to recommend, I’m always down to check them out. I love learning new styles and seeing different tastes. Fashion is a lifestyle! Actually though.

Anyway, that’s it for today! Until next week, I hope you have a fabulous weekend! For those of you who are approaching the end of their semester/the most stressful part of the semester, I feel you. Good luck and I hope you guys have a blog to help you de-stress like I do ha-ha.

Cheers!

June Inspiration 2015/ I miss my blog.

HOLY SMOKES. Where has the time gone? It’s July everybody, and I didn’t even get a chance to share my inspiration for June! You have no idea how upset I get when I think about the time I am wasting when I could be focusing more on blogging. Honestly though, who needs work? Who needs an internship? Who needs a bachelor’s degree when you’ve got a blog to commit to?! I really and truly miss blogging. I miss taking pictures and I miss sharing my thoughts with you guys. I know it’s been less than a month, but I feel like I haven’t posted in three. Before I get all emotional, here is what I was inspired by (picture-wise) during the month of June. There isn’t exactly a theme or group of things that I gravitated the most towards. It’s just a mash-up of pictures I love.

Enjoy.

As per usual, I do not take credit for these photos. They were simply taken from the cornucopia of photos I’ve re-blogged on Tumblr. If you’d like to follow my Tumblr, it’s http://www.a-lannah.tumblr.com!

Have a happy Sunday!!
