I don’t even know where to start! Within the last month or so, I’ve read ALL THREE books to this series by Erika Johansen. (I just finished the third book last night!) This is a pretty big deal if you consider the fact that it took me almost three months to finish the novel I read before this series. I think the reason I read three books in such a shorter period of time is that I honestly couldn’t put these down!! If you love fantasy novels and books that are based on a girl who kicks butt, then this is a book for you! I’m not trying to harp on the whole feminism thing, but it was really refreshing to read a novel where the girl is headstrong and a visionary leader.
The series is about a girl named Kelsea Raleigh, but she prefers the last name Glynn. She’s the future Queen of the Tearling (which is a separate realm or something). Before Kelsea became Queen, the Tearling was corrupt and unjust. Over the course of these three books, Kelsea has to face a number of enemies. Her ultimate enemy: the evil Red Queen. For years the Red Queen has had the Tearling under her thumb, due to an agreement Kelsea’s mother had made years ago. The Red Queen demands that the Tearling send her a shipment of Tears once a month, so that they can be sold as slaves to her people in Mortmesne. It’s pretty messed up. In exchange for the monthly shipments of people, the Red Queen has agreed to give them “peace” and to not invade their land. Of course Kelsea puts a stop to these shipments, and when the Red Queen doesn’t receive her shipment, she’s ready for war/invasion. Not only does Kelsea have to figure out a way to put a stop to the invasion and save her people, but there’s so much more going on inside her and her kingdom as well. There’s these two sapphire necklaces that are passed down to Kelsea. Only a true Tear can control them and use their power. Since putting them on her neck, all these weird things have been happening to Kelsea. It seems like they’re more so controlling her. She’s got strength she never knew she had, she can heal, the jewels have altered her appearance, and they can take her back in time as well! I’m pretty sure I’m butchering this story (I’m a reader, not a writer lol), but if that doesn’t get you even the slightest bit interested – you’re crazy! Just kidding, I know Fantasy novels are not everyone’s cup of tea. But they sure are mine!! I want to share everything that happens in order to convince you, but I also don’t want to ruin this series for anyone (if I haven’t already :p).
All I can say, is that I HIGHLY recommend you guys giving these books a shot. The end of the series was not what I expected, but I really think you can learn something from this series if you have an open mind. I’m rather sad they had to end.. But there were online rumours of Emma Watson staring in a future movie, so maybe it’s not over! Until then, you guys should get reading 😉
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Until next time,
So, I love me some Harry Potter. I am a SUPER fan. I pre-ordered the new Harry Potter book like three months in advance (ONE MORE WEEK!!!). Don’t judge me.
But I had tried other fantasy novels, like The Lord of the Rings, and I grew bored! The Lord of the Rings was just too much. Too many different species. Too many details. Too many languages. It was a lot to follow and I’m so sorry if I’ve offended anyone! Terry Brooks’ books (say that 10 times fast) made me hesitate at first because they looked very similar to The Lord of the Rings. “The Shannara Chronicles” literally looked like TLOTR’s cousin, but I did end up giving the first book a shot. I LOVED “The Elfstones of Shannara”. It wasn’t over the top, it wasn’t hard to follow, there was a bit of romance (which every woman needs) and it was awesome. An epic fantasy and an epic thumbs up from me. I requested the second book of the series for my birthday from my boyfriend, and I was super pleased that he followed through lol.
The book is generally about elves, faeries, humans, and a few other creatures who are trying to save their world from being taken over by demons. There’s a fancy tree called “Ellcrys” that has trapped the demons deep down in the ground somewhere for years and years, and now she’s getting too old and her power is weakening. Once Ellcrys dies, the demons will be set free and seek revenge on everyone/kill every other race. In order to stop this from happening, Wil Ohmsford and Amberle have to take a seed to a “Bloodfire” and then bring it back to the Ellcrys before its too late. Trust me, it’s a lot more than that. I kind of suck at explaining plot summaries. There’s a lot of other characters, and a lot of fighting, dying, and drama as well. I swear it’s an awesome book!
Anyways, I don’t want to give the book away by telling too much, but I’ll tell you that there is a TV series that follows these books. I haven’t started watching it yet (I’m actually trying to finish OITNB atm), BUT Vanessa Hudgens’ hunk of a boyfriend plays Wil Ohmsford and I am soooo looking forward to starting it now that I’ve completed the first book. Mmm mm.
I hope you guys give this book a chance. I probably wasn’t as convincing as I hoped I would be. If you do end up reading this book, let me know!! I would love to talk about it because so far no one else understands..
Haha! Until next time and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hey everyone! Today I decided to try something different. For those of you who have been following me for a while, you probably know that one of my new yearns resolutions for 2016 was to read more books. And I have been doing just that! I think I have started a new book every 1-2 weeks.
Last week I finished “The Clasp” by Sloane Crowley. It was a fun read. A GREAT read! Nothing was really taken away from reading it, I can’t say I really learned anything… but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless! This is Sloane’s first fiction novel and I have to say that it was one of the best written novels that I have read in a while. The way she wrote made it so easy to understand and relate. Her choice of language was perfect. She made the reader want to know every detail and on top that, she was hilarious!
In terms of the story (without giving too much away), it was about 3 college best friends who have grown up and have just entered adulthood. Friends are getting married, getting real jobs, etc. What’s interesting about these three is that they are different but somehow are caught in a little love triangle. Kezia, Nathaniel, and Victor are in love with one or the other. Kezia loves Nathaniel, Nathaniel loves Kezia, and Victor loves Kezia as well. Sloane takes the three of them on an unexpected adventure in Paris (my dream destination – I think it’s a sign!) that actually has nothing to do with their feelings towards each other. They’re on a hunt for this really old, expensive necklace that was hidden in the 1800s. It’s actually quite cool!
I want to say more but it’s really hard to go further into it without giving away the entire story. Just take my word for it, this book is a fun read. It’s super relatable, funny, and cute. Who doesn’t love a love triangle/romance in general? I’m a freaking sucker for this crap.
Anyways, I encourage you all to read this book! If you have any book recommendations for me, please let me know in the comment section below!! I’m actually thinking about sharing more books that I read in the future, does that sound like a good idea? I love to read almost as much as I love fashion. Why not combine the two?! Once again, lemme know your thoughts below!
Love you all! Happy Friday!
What is a #GirlBoss? What does it take to become a #GirlBoss? Just recently I have finished reading Sophia Amouruso’s book “#GirlBoss” (I was up until 3am), and I absolutely loved it. LIKE LOOOVVVVVED IT (no exaggeration). Her writing style and words of wisdom are beyond inspiring, making this book a must-read for all aspiring fashion students/people. Heck! Even if you aren’t crazy about fashion but are interested on how to be successful in the business world, you HAVE to read this book! Sophia’s story behind her amazing success is far from glamorous, and it was definitely far from easy (she was a 17 year-old dumpster eater for Pete’s sake!)! However, after reading, I’ve learned a number of great ways to help me fulfill my dreams. Sophia made it clear to me that hard work and compromise is rewarded. Her story and the things she had to say were so relatable that I feel empowered after reading it. She gives me hope and the motivation to try to “be the best”. I really don’t want to give too much away because I’m really hoping you guys will read this book too. Sophia and other inspirational #Girlbosses (like Leandra Medine from Man Repeller) give advice on a few things like how to manage your money, stay positive, and achieve success. After reading this book all I want to do is work hard and keep busy!
You all have to read it, I highly recommend it 🙂
