What I Wore Last Week

It’s that time of the week again! I’m here to bring you the four (yes, four – I’m sorry!) looks that I wore last week! I only have four looks because I got really busy with work and kinda sorta forgot to take a photo of my outfit. Trust me, if I didn’t document it then it must not have been that great! Work at TOPSHOP TOPMAN has been pretty hectic for me lately. There’s a few changes going on that I’ll explain more in my “Life Update” but I feel like I haven’t had my two feet on the ground, or my head straight or whatever, in a really long time. Things are about to change though! Hopefully they’re for the better. But for now, here are those four looks/what I wore last week!

Outfit #1: Do you remember that blazer I thrifted in my IGTV video/“Thrift Haul”? This is that blazer! This is the huge blazer that I think a lot of people would think “uhh no, don’t do it”. I love how it looks oversized! I love the massive shoulders. I’m sure I’ll be over it in a couple of years but right now, I’m 100% here for it and I think it’s so on trend! I’ve also been using it as more of a jacket than a blazer and I love it overtop of other outfits. I think I made the right decision with this one, and I only spent like, $15! I really just wanted to show off the blazer so I paired it with a simple white button-up from UNIQLO and my BINX jeans from “My Favourite TOPSHOP Jeans” post that I wrote a while back. We no longer carry these but I plan on making these babies last as long as possible. The fit is SO GOOD. For accessories, I wore these purple dangly earrings for some colour. I added this cute pink baby tote from Aritzia for another pop of colour. And for texture, my “snakeskin” booties.

Outfit #2: This was a Wednesday. I forget where I heard it, but I think on Wednesday’s people wear pink? Lol totally kidding. Mean Girls Day was like two days ago!! These deep fuchsia/pink trousers and my pink Gucci sweater were such a good match. I can’t believe I never thought to wear them together before! I wore white boots to keep it interesting. I wore my peach crossbody bag to break up the pink a bit, and then layered some necklaces and was ready to go!

Outfit #3: Really wanted to wear my new cardigan but wanted to stay away from jeans. I thought it’d be too boring with jeans. Instead, I went with my green and white printed satin midi skirt! I toughened it up, made it less preppy and more casual with a plain white t-shirt underneath and my shiny combat boots! The headband is a new addition! I was in Zara and it called to me. I wore it around the store and even wore it on my way out! It was an instant connection. If I’m being honest, large and chunky headbands were seen a lot during Fashion Month (last month) and it kinda inspired this purchase.

Outfit #4: I’m trying my best to make my outfits look more Fall but I’m clearly in denial. Bright and pastel colours are still calling me but I wore my black cropped denim jacket to darken things up a bit. It made it more moody. More Fall (lol). Underneath this jacket I wore a fitted long sleeve in this acid washed brown and cream combo. For bottoms, I wore my yellow cropped wide leg jeans. They make me happy. They remind me of sunshine and Summer. I wore nude booties with heels that look like a hardwood floor and the same peachy/apricot-coloured crossbody to complete the look! I also want to note that my hair is in a ponytail. This is a rare occasion for me. My hair is getting out of control so I’ve been putting it up a lot lately. Don’t worry, I’ve book a hair appointment for next week!

Okay, folks! That’s it, that’s all! Again, I’m sorry for having only 4 outfits again. I feel sloppy and unorganized but like I said, it’s been hectic! Hopefully I can get an explanation/a life update posted within the next few days!

Until then!

What I Wore Last Week

Hey! Did you miss this?! I know I only took a week-long break because of my vacation but it feels like such a long time. I’m going to be upfront and say that the first day I was back at work, I forgot to take a photo of my outfit. I was just getting back into the groove, okay?! I had so much to catch up on and to be honest, I think my mind was still somewhere else. Still in relaxation mode?

I’m here now though! I also noticed that I haven’t posted anything new for a while and I was getting so consistent! I have a reasonable explanation! A lot of changes are happening in my life right now and when the time comes, I’ll share everything. Should I post a “Life Update”? If you’d like this, let me know by commenting in the section below!

Here are the four outfits that I wore last week!

Outfit #1: I came back to work feeling very refreshed and ready for success! I think these outfits are a good batch! This first outfit is somewhat of a risk. I cut up my old Jamie jeans and turned them into something similar to bicycle shorts. I saw it done on Instagram and thought I’d try to recreate the look. One thing that’s also new (to you, old to me) and that you probably haven’t seen me wear before is this hat! I actually have a wall of wide brimmed hats that I forget are there to be worn instead of just to look at. This black one is from Forever21 years and years ago. I think I bought it when I worked there so that’s a really long time ago. For a top I wore this sleeveless sweater or knitted tank top? I’m not sure how you would classify it but it came with a matching midi skirt that I plan to wear together sometime soon! I brought out my camouflage shacket (shirt + jacket) as I do almost every year around this time (at least for the past two years). I wore my black cowboy boots (obviously) and added this brown purse with horses or jaguars all over it. How do I confuse the two? I really don’t know.

Outfit #2: What in the world is a VSCO girl? Someone told me that this outfit made me look like a VSCO girl and I can’t figure out if that’s a compliment or an insult. This is one of my favourite outfits that I’ve worn in the last few weeks! I love this colour combination. This lilac cardigan is getting a lot more love than I expected. I thrifted it but its originally from The Gap. I wore a thin white long sleeve from TOPSHOP and a tweed-like mini skirt also from TOPSHOP. My black patent combat boots are also from TOPSHOP (it’s like I work there or something lol). I added a silver chain belt for an accessory as well as my Marc Jacobs bag and this cute star hair clip!

Outfit #3: This outfit was all about the Sailor Moon t-shirt from Uniqlo. I love this shirt. I made sure to buy it the day it came out because I had a really good feeling they’d be all sold out. I had a friend tell me that she went to buy it and they were already all gone! I’m going to treasure this shirt forever because Sailor Moon is so near and dear to my heart. I used to watch Sailor Moon growing up at home. I was Sailor Moon for Halloween THREE years in a row. I still know the theme song off by heart! Guys, I’m obsessed. I think we knew that when I bought a Sailor Moon phone case and a Luna case for my AirPods. I paired this magnificent piece of art known as a graphic t-shirt with my long denim midi skirt with slits down the sides. I also wore my rusty brown corduroy jacket and my snakeskin booties. And of course I also couldn’t forget Nunoo!

Outfit #4: I’ve never been more exhausted in my life. My face is covered because it’s become clear to me that the first week back from vacation really takes a toll on you! I threw together my white Mom jeans, a cute new body suit (because I planned on wearing it later to go dancing), and my check blazer (one of too many)! I wore my snakeskin boots to break up the monochromatic look with some texture and some colour (?). For accessories, I just wore some hoop earrings and my Rachel Green thrifted purse.

Alright! Back in the swing of things! This concludes “What I Wore Last Week”. My life has been a little bit of a mess lately but like I said earlier, I’ll share an update and tell you what’s been going on with me! It’s a lot of things. Some good, some bad. I’m excited though!

Until then!

Fall/Winter Trends 2019-2020

Hey everyone! I have some new content for you! I’m doing a little something that I’ve never done before. I’m all caught up with regular content so I’ve got the wiggle room to do something creative and different for a change! Are you excited? I’m excited. New York, London and Milan Fashion Week SS’20 have just recently ended, and it’s inspired me!

Today’s blog post will be me sharing what I’ve learned to be the trends you’re probably going to be seeing a lot of during Fall and Winter 2019-2020. Some of it I don’t agree with. Some of it I’m really looking forward to! At the end of this, let me know what you think! What are you here for? What can you live without? Are you dreading any of these trends at all???

Okay, here they are!

1. Plaid/Tartans/Gingham/Houndstooth – Is this really a surprise for anyone? To me, plaid and Fall is like florals and Spring. It’s just what’s to be expected! Don’t get me wrong though, I love florals and I absolutely love plaid/tartan or any type of check print! I’m not a huuuge fan of flannels. I like a plaid or check print suit. I like a plaid skirt. I LOVE a plaid coat! I’m also never ever opposed to gingham in any colour. Flannels remind me of my country girl background that I’m not ready to revisit. I feel like I get enough from my love for cowboy boots. During the upcoming Fall/Winter season, you can expect a lot of plaid blazers. Suiting is big this season whether it’s plaid/tartan/gingham/houndstooth or not. Here are some looks from the runway in February!

2. Tulle/Tiered Ruffles – I love tulle and I love ruffles. I love an excuse to feel like a ballerina or a princess! This is also the perfect excuse to look extra during Fall/Winter 2019 and I’m always looking for an excuse to stand out! While researching I noticed a lot of pink tulle/ruffles. You can literally look like a ballerina this Fall/Winter and not be judged! For the most part, you’re going to see lots of tulle and lots of ruffles in the form of dresses. But I have seen some tulle and ruffles in the form of blouses currently in stores like Zara and TOPSHOP ;))

3. Millennial Purple – I love this colour! I also don’t think that I have any of it in my wardrobe so this is an excuse to go shopping! Not that I need an excuse because I’m a personal shopper/shop for people for a living. It’s not even this specific shade that you should be aware of. I think you’ll just be seeing a lot of purple in general throughout the Fall/Winter. It was seen from head-to-toe at Balenciaga’s show but for those of you that don’t want to fully commit to the colour, you should consider a lavender or orchid coloured purse! I personally have my eye on a pair of trousers!!

4. Fleece – Fleece or sherpa or shearling was trickling in a little last year. I definitely saw a few pieces but I think this is the year where you’re going to see it EVERYWHERE. I’m a big fan! I like mixing textures! According to my research, you’re going to see fleece in all form. Bags, jackets, coats and sweaters all covered in fleece or with a touch of fleece detailing! Embrace the fake sheep (lol)!! Personally, I’d love a fleece bag. I’d love that kind of texture in bag form, what about you?

5. Browns and beiges – I’m not sure about this trend because I think it’s going to make me look naked. I guess I could lean more towards darker shades but if I wear anything on the lighter side, everything might match my skin. I guess I could wear anything closer to white as well – I’ll have to experiment! I think the best way to wear this trend is from head to toe. That’s how they wore it on the runway. Brown or beige suits are perfect. I’ve seen some knitted tops with matching skirts in these colours. Think Max Mara but to the max? (I’m clever) I’m definitely going to be adding a few more brown and beige pieces to my wardrobe. Overall, I think monochromatic looks are so chic when they’re in a neutral colour. Trés classy.

6. Capes – This is one that I can’t quite come around to. Maybe it’s because I’m petite? I just think it only looks nice on tall skinny girls. For a short girl like me, I think I’ll look like I’m drowning in a blanket or something. Does that make any sense? It just doesn’t give anyone any shape and on the wrong person, it can make you look a lot bigger than what you are! And shorter! I don’t need that! I mean, if I ever decide I want to become a superhero, I’ll probably take this trend under more consideration. However, for now, I think this is the trend I will more than likely stay away from.

7. Asymmetrical necklines – THIS. I. AM. HERE FOR! I already have a top that fits this trend perfectly! It’s in a black satin-like material and has a bit of a ruffle (Omg! Two trends in one!!!). I think this is one of the trends that will be the easiest to incorporate into your wardrobe. It’s not too crazy and for those that don’t like the off-the-shoulder trend, this is a good compromise! You won’t just see this neckline in tops but you’ll see it in dresses as well! I think it’s very flattering and that everyone’s going to want to wear it.

8. Luxe bucket hat – If you know me, you know I’m a bit of a hat girl. To be honest, last year I had shown my boyfriend this luxe fuzzy bucket hat and I wanted it so soo much, but he told me no! I mean, I know I could have bought it any way. I think I was a little scared to get it to begin with and him saying that just confirmed that I should maybe hold off. However, NOW IS THE TIME. It doesn’t even have to be fuzzy! It just has to be a more elevated bucket hat! I am definitely going to try to find that exact same hat or something similar to wear this year though. Not only are they cute and trendy but I think these bucket hats will be warm/shield me from the cold Winter winds!

9. Croc texture/embossed leather bags and shoes – I’ve always been a big fan of this texture. I remember when the Olsen twins wore a lot of bags with the croc texture and so I bought one from Zara and felt like the coolest chick on the planet. Even if it’s fake, it can look pretty luxe and expensive. Again, I love texture. I love adding more dimension to my outfit with fake crocodile skin. Who doesn’t lol? If you don’t want a textured jacket or anything that would be a big investment, go for a handbag or shoes! It’s the best way to spice up any look this season! Honestly, just go for it.

10. Square-toed shoes – I have never worn shoes with a squared toe, ever. I am however, very open to trying it! I love mixing up my shoe game so I definitely think that I will buy a pair of shoes with a squared toe. I’ve seen more boots and heels with this shape. I’m leaning more towards boots but I’ll keep you updated.

That’s it from me. These are the trends that I think you wanna look out for this upcoming Fall/Winter season. Obviously a lot of these looks aren’t very wearable for your everyday lives. These are just photos for inspiration. It’s just so you have an idea of what kinds of things you should be looking for and obviously the stuff you’ll find in the mall will be waaay more toned down. I’m not saying go out and look like a loofa! If you know any other trends that I forgot to mention, let me know in the comment section below! I can’t wait to experiment with all of these. If you want to see looks incorporating these trends, I’m not opposed to that! I think it’d be fun to create some outfits and maybe this way you can get a better idea of how to wear them! Again, just let me know in the comment section below :)))

Until next time,

Farewell Summer.

Although these photos were taken closer to the beginning of Summer, I thought they’d be a good way to close the Summer. I don’t know where the time went! I feel like Summer is never long enough. Seriously, where did the time go?! Everyone is already back at school. And I have to wear a jacket now??! I still have a list of things I want to do but I guess they’re going to have to wait until next year.

I think my favourite part of Summer 2019 was going outside near the lake and having a picnic in the sun. I did this about a handful of times this Summer. I don’t know what it is but I feel so at peace when I’m by the water. I’m fortunate enough to be a 5min walk from the lake and I feel like I need to take more advantage of this going forward. Obviously, my birthday is also in the Summer so that’s a favourite part as well. I never went to the beach which is kinda of upsetting. I did go to Cuba in May though, so I guess it’s only fair.

Today’s outfit post is the final outfit of the three I last took with Jemilla (@jemillajems). I’m not sure if I’ll be taking more outfits photos with her anytime soon but I will do my best to get similar content up! The dress I’m wearing in these photos is from TOPSHOP (are you at all surprised?) and I paired it with my infamous brown cowboy boots that I got from Talize for $12. To accessorize a little, I wore these heart earrings with three tiers. They’re really sparkly and fun!

Here are the photos we got of this look!

Now that Fall is here, what are you looking forward to wearing again? What are you most excited to pull from the back of your closet? I think I’m excited to wear turtlenecks again. I love them as a layering piece! Maybe I’ll do a blog post on how I style a turtleneck? Let me know if you like this idea in the comment section below :))

Until next time,

Inspo: NYFW SS’20 Street Style

Hey guys! I don’t really have much to say for this post. During New York Fashion Week this year (Spring/Summer 2020), I creeped online and found a bunch of awesome outfits that people wore to the shows. Like AWESOME outfits. These outfits are truly pieces of art and they remind me why I love fashion so much. I think one of the best parts of NYFW is seeing the street style. It’s a way of self expression! It’s what I love and am truly passionate about. They don’t care about standing out. That’s exactly what they want! This post is really for me to throw together all these looks in one spot so that I can come back and refer to them whenever I need inspiration. I hope they can be used as inspiration for you guys as well! Enjoy 🙂

What I Wore Last Week

Happy Saturday! I am feeling so rejuvenated and ready to do anything and everything! This week of vacation was needed and I am so not looking forward to going back to work. I like relaxing and I like doing everything at my own speed. I like not having any obligations. It’s nice being stress-free. However, I am an adult living in Toronto and blogging and reading books at home is not going to feed me (which sucks btw). This week’s “What I Wore Last Week” is another week with only 4 outfits. Labour Day was last week! So this one is going to be quick and easy! I also want to let you know, if it isn’t obvious, I will not have a “What I Wore Last Week” next week because I’ve been doing a whole lot of nothing. I mean, I’ve got some content done! I’ve had some really good meals. Outfit-wise… you would see a lot of me in big t-shirts and sweatpants. Not exactly “cute”. Let me know if I’m wrong lol.

Here’s what I wore last week!

Outfit #1: I like this look a lot. Layering a crewneck sweater on top of a long dress is definitely going to be a go-to combination for me this season. It’s easy, it’s warm, and I love how it looks! This yellow sweater that says “Soulmate” on the front is one of my favourites. Honestly, when I first bought this sweater I did not expect to wear as much as I do. Part of the reason is that I wonder if it screams desperation? Or is it cute? But I’ve had this sweater for over a year now and I’m never letting it go! I wore it over this dress that I got years ago in the clearance section at TOPSHOP. It doesn’t look aged at all and I love that about it. I’ve worn it in so many different ways and I don’t think I plan on letting this piece go either. For shoes, I wore my Adidas sneakers from SSense. I am so glad I ordered these. I was worried I was spending way too much money on them because I’m not a sneakers kind of gal, but I stand corrected! I’ve been wearing these guys soooo much. To finish this look, I added my new Fjallraven backpack! This was actually the first day back to school for most people so it seemed really cute and fitting to bring my backpack to work. I mean, cute to me. Probably nerdy and weird to most of you. I haven’t been in school for 3 years now!

Outfit #2: Does this look remind you of someone? I’ll give you one guess. This was inspired by Princess Diana! I was also inspired by the spread in Vogue that Hailey Bieber (I can’t digest saying Bieber at the end of her name.. is it just me?) did recently that recreated some of Diana’s iconic looks. This look of hers is my favourite though. I wore my Binx jeans from TOPSHOP with a plain white t-shirt and my cowboy boots. I threw my thrifted blazer from Talize over everything and then added my Gucci bag and my New York Yankees baseball cap. Yes, I’m wearing a hat! Weird, right? I also added these crazy ornate door knocker-esque earrings to make it a little more fancy? I was going to do gold hoops but you know me, more is more!

Outfit #3: I tried to dabble with layering since it’s something I’m going to be doing a lot of very soon *tear*. I layered this tank with this cute zipper down the front on top of this long-sleeved brown acid wash top. I really like this top. I’ve seen a lot of similar pieces online and was really happy when TOPSHOP got their own version. I wasn’t sure what to wear for the bottom half of this outfit but I ended up going with these comfy wide leg jeans with the cute little white drawstring at the waist. I got these from the TOPSHOP clearance as well. They were $20. For shoes, I wore those Birkenstock-inspired sandals from TOPSHOP two years ago. I needed a casual shoe but I didn’t want anything tooo casual. These western buckles were the right amount of “jazz”(?) that I needed for this look. I needed to add some sparkle to this look as well so I dumped all my crap into this silver woven shoulder bag and headed out the door!

Outfit #4: This is probably the last time you’ll see me in shorts. It’s definitely cooled down a lot this past week. I really hope it’s not the last time but I have a feeling it is. I wore my denim paper bag shorts with a blouse that I recently thrifted and shared on IGTV if you wanna give me a follow (@tinyintoronto)! I uploaded a “Thrift Haul” on IGTV and I really think I might do it more often. This blouse seems vintage. I’ve said this in that video but I really think it is. This might be TMI but while I was ironing it (and I washed it, I swear!), I smelled mothballs. If that doesn’t tell you it’s old, I don’t know what does. I added this really cool blazer? Maybe it’s a cardigan? I threw on this really intricate piece for a jacket lol. It’s made with this black velvet material and then covered in beads. It’s really cool and I haven’t worn it very much because I don’t want to ruin it. It does snag quite often and I do see areas where beads have completely fallen off and disappeared. It’s also an old TOPSHOP piece. For accessories, I wore my black cowboy boots, these new star earrings from @enroutejewelry_ and my By Far-inspired bag from TOPSHOP. The shoes were the most difficult decision for this outfit but I am very glad with what I ended up going with. These black cowboy boots look great, no?!

There you have it! Another “What I Wore Last Week” for the books! I hope this can tie you over for the next bit because like I said, there won’t be one of these next week! I’ll try to post something else instead!

Until next time,

– Tiny ❤

Book Review: The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani

I don’t know where to begin with this book because I wanna be honest with you. After reading “The Perfect Nanny“, I felt really incomplete (for the lack of a better word?). I just felt like I needed more. I felt like the story wasn’t really over. I wasn’t left with many answers. Maybe that was Leila’s whole point? Who am I to know any better! Like actually, I’m not an author. I don’t have any novels published that I know of lol. Leila’s book made it on the list of New York Times’ 10 Best Books of 2018 so she probably knows something I don’t know. All I’m saying is that I was disappointed by it, but I guess I can’t really say much else until after I’ve explained what the book is about.

The Perfect Nanny” starts off with a pretty serious and disturbing scene. A woman comes home to her two children dead in the bathroom. Who did it? No one knows. But that’s how the novel starts off and during the entire time I was reading this book I was asking myself, “Who did it?” And “How did this happen?”

As a reader, you don’t find out until the very end of the novel. Me, personally, I think the title gives it away a little. I hope this isn’t ruining anything for you!

Anyways, after this short chapter/introduction/opening scene(?), you get introduced to this couple. Myriam and Paul. They’re married and have two kids. They have a daughter named Mila and a son named Adam. Myriam went to school to be a lawyer and she was really good at it. However, she got pregnant and her dreams of being a lawyer were put on hold. She then had a second child and had to put it off a bit further. It wasn’t like she was itching to go back to her dream. Well she didn’t realize she was because she actually quite liked being a stay-at-home mother, and she loved her kids. The reason she wasn’t working was because she was mostly afraid and worried to leave her children in the hands of anyone else. One day Myriam runs into Patrick, an old classmate of hers, and he offers her a job at his firm! After her conversation with him, she realizes she really does want to work and have a work life. She knew it sounded selfish but there was a void inside her and she felt like she needed this. She did’t want to live solely for her kids. She had a passion. She wanted to be a lawyer and she was going to be. They just had to find a nanny first.

They hold interviews for a nanny with this list of crazy high standards. It really starts to look like they’ll never find a nanny until they meet Louise. Right away Louise connects with Myriam’s children and Myriam and Paul hire her. Louise cooks, cleans, hosts kiddie parties and even stays late without complaining. She lives to be apart of this family and to take care of Mila and Adam. Myriam and Paul are so grateful and feel so lucky to have found a nanny like Louise that they invite her on vacation with them! Everything seems perfect. Myriam is doing great at her law firm. Paul is signing great talent at the record label he works at. He’s even creating his own music! But as they grow together and learn more about Louise, they start to learn that there’s more to her than they think there is. And I’ll leave it at that.

I know it sounds obvious that Louise is the culprit. Or does Myriam go off the rails because she can’t handle being away from her kids? What if she resents Louise because of the kids’ attachment to her and ends up doing something she regrets? What if she planned to walk into the bathroom to find her dead children there so she would never be considered a suspect? (It’s getting a little far fetched, isn’t it?) You’ll have to read to find out more!

Overall, this book was a pretty quick read. I think I finished it in less than a week. I only have time to read during my 40min commute to work and back and sometimes on my break. I think I did a pretty good job getting through it! Maybe I’m being too harsh about this book. Maybe it’s because I would have done it differently. Or maybe I have the wrong perspective? I think maybe I took this story a little too literally and wasn’t looking at it in the way Leila wanted me to? I know a lot of this doesn’t make sense without context. Just know that the murder of the children is weird. I wanted a more descriptive ending. I wanted to know what happened to our couple! There was so much buildup and it left me unsatisfied. As a side note, I also think whenever I stopped reading this book, I was completely lost and found it hard to figure out where I was and what had just happened. That’s probably not a good sign, right? I guess it’s pretty obvious that this wasn’t the novel for me. I loved that it was based in Paris, France! But I think I would have to give “The Perfect Nanny” a 5/10. I wanna say before I go that I have considered that maybe Leila wanted that bit of mystery at the end. Maybe her technique was to keep the reader guessing? Or maybe she wanted to keep it open and for me to create an ending for myself?

I’m probably overthinking this. You’ll realize from reading these “book reviews” that I tend to think WAY TOO MUCH. If you’ve read this book, tell me what you think! Tell me I’m an idiot! I just know I wasn’t happy with the ending. You can’t love them all, right?

Until next time!
