On New Year’s Day, I made a balaclava from START TO FINISH! I can’t believe how easy it was! I’m super impressed with myself and how it turned out. My best friend, Jericho, gifted me this gorgeous yarn for Christmas and I knew I had to turn it into a balaclava. I’ve wanted to crochet one for a while but the yarn that I have just isn’t soft enough for something that touches so much of your face and neck. I was worried that most of it would make my face itchy but the yarn Jer got me is so soft, and just perfect. If you don’t know what a balaclava is, it’s basically a ski mask. I know they’re super trendy right now but I’ve been wanting to make one since I saw this photo from Miu Miu’s FW21 fashion show:

My balaclava is obviously a little different because Miu Miu’s looks more like a helmet. Maybe I’ll try to make a helmet next time? I’m in love with the one I made but I love it so much that I want to make another lol. It just turned out so well and when something you made yourself exceeds your expectations… there’s like, no better feeling! It’s a high! So I’m definitely going to make another balaclava in the future, and maybe I’ll try to find this Miu Miu helmet pattern. The pattern I followed to make my first balaclava is from Etsy. My friend, Lauren, shared a balaclava that she made on Instagram and I was obsessed. She sent me the link to this Etsy seller and I purchased it right away. I don’t use patterns very often because I find some of the wording in patterns to be a little confusing and hard to follow, but this seller’s instructions were perfect. Very cute, straightforward, and easy to follow! I highly recommend it. Here’s a link if you’d like to make one yourself: https://etsy.me/3bwIwap

Now I know that this piece isn’t for everyone, and I’m not going to try and sell it to you or anything. But there are so many positive things I can say about my balaclava!
1. She’s gorgeous.
2. The colours are stunning (and great for hiding any makeup that rubs off my face lol)!
3. She’s WARM! I’m not even joking. It really protects you from the cold air out there.
4. It’s made of the softest yarn from my forever bestie.
5. She hides any bad hair day.
6. I feel on trend and kinda cool when I wear it.
7. She’s gorgeous.
8. It’s 100% ONE OF A KIND because I MADE IT.
9. She’s gorgeous.
10. AND I MADE IT!
I think that’s enough said, right? Speaking of making things, I think I’m back on a crochet kick. I feel inspired again after making this balaclava. It was such a great start to my year! I have so many crochet projects in mind and I can’t wait to share them all with you. I’m currently working on a mini skirt (definitely sharing when I’m finished)! And last night I finished a beanie! I made one for my boyfriend for Christmas and it turned out so well that I wanted to keep it for myself! I obviously didn’t because it was a Christmas gift. But after learning and realizing how easy it is to make a beanie, I think I’m going to play around and make beanies in all sorts of colours. I might experiment with some fuzzy yarns, too!

If I haven’t sold you on the balaclava, I hope you still enjoyed reading this post and can at least appreciate the craftsmanship ha-ha. I’ve got a lot of ideas/projects I want to do so I’m sure I’ll make something that’ll peak your interest!
Thank you so much for reading this! Stay warm out there!!!
Until next time,
– Tiny ❤
