Monthly Favourites: October 2020

It’s that time again! Another month of this wild year has gone by and although it feels like the world is falling apart, I’ve managed to stay positive and find little joys to share with you. I encourage you guys to stay positive because although there are a number of terrible things going on, I still believe that there are good people out there. There are still things to be happy about and grateful for. I know it can be tough to find light in all this but you must because life is too short! It’s too short to dwell in negativity and there’s only so much that you can control.

Now enough with all the heaviness!

I have a YouTube video that I use posted of me talking about the following favourites. If you would prefer to watch that, here’s the link:

If that doesn’t interest you, you can continue reading!

Here are my favourites/the things I loved most during the month of October:

Vagabond boots from Little Burgundy – I feel like I’ve talked a lot about these boots so I’m going to keep it short and simple. They’re the “Tara” boots by Vagabond and they’re basically a platform Chelsea boot. I’ve been wearing them in most of my past outfit posts because they go with absolutely everything. I love them so much! They give me a little boost and with being 4 feet and 11 inches tall, this is well-appreciated. Vagabond is a fantastic brand when it comes to quality and comfort. They have never disappointed me. I purchased my Vagabonds at Little Burgundy and I tagged them in my Instagram post, and they included it in one of their e-mails – it was so cool! Here’s a photo of the e-mail:

I was so shocked and (I’m not going to lie lol) it made me feel kinda special. My boyfriend took a fab photo and seeing it in an e-mail that gets sent out to a mass amount of people is something I never expected. I printed it lol.

Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer – There’s a whole book review/blog post on this book but to sum everything up: this book was GREAT. If you are an original Twilight fan and you read the books when they came out, I think you’ll understand why I enjoyed this book so much. It reminded me of my high school days where I would curl up with a book from the Twilight saga/series and read the entire book in one day. I probably sound like a huge nerd but I loved it so much. Even though Midnight Sun is basically a retelling of Twilight but in Edward’s perspective, I still learned new things! There was so much that I didn’t know about Edward and although I knew where the story was going and knew how it ended, I still couldn’t get enough of it. I didn’t want this book to end! If that doesn’t tell you something, I don’t know what does. I really think that those of you that are my age and have never read a Twilight book wouldn’t like it though. Nostalgia plays a big part.

Crocheted Harry Styles cardigan – I’ve talked about this cardigan loads as well. I mean, these are favourites for a reason! In my last outfit post I talk more about this little project, but oh my god – I am so happy that I learned how to crochet. It’s so rewarding! Making this Harry Styles cardigan has taught me so much that I feel like I could crochet anything. Although there are a few things that I would have done differently, like scaling the pattern/instructions to fit my body better, I am super proud of myself. I can’t believe I made this thing! The feeling of being able to wear something you made all by yourself… Well, there’s nothing like it. If you’ve ever thought about crocheting, you should definitely try it! If I can do it, you can do it.

Hats from Free People – I am a hat girl through and through. I have a really early childhood memory of my dad telling me that I’m a hat girl. We’d go shopping and he’d place the most random hats on my head lol. He bought me this one outrageous winter hat in the most disgusting green colour. It also had multicoloured pom-poms on top of it. I LOVED that thing. I made my dad know how much I loved and appreciated it by literally wearing it to bed! Guys, I slept with this hat on lol. Now almost twenty years later, I still am tempted to sleep with my new hats. I got 3 new ones this past month! I know it’s a lot but I couldn’t resist. I got them all from work/Free People. I got two berets and a new bucket hat. I’m wearing all 3 in some of my latest Instagram photos if you’d like to give them a look. My Instagram is @tinyintoronto! I also try them on in the YouTube video above if you wanna fast forward through that and see them.

Hoop earrings from Mejuri – By now you guys are probably well aware of my addiction to Mejuri jewelry. For the longest time I had been eyeing some of their hoop earrings for every day, and it wasn’t until I noticed that a lot of my current hoops are tarnishing that I really considered just biting the bullet. So I bit that bullet and I am so glad that I did. I got two pairs. I’ve rotated between the two of them ever since I got them. They’re now the only earrings I wear! I think they were such a good investment and I believe that these will last much longer than any off my other ones that have already tarnished. The earrings that I got were their chunky hoop earrings and their tube hoop earrings. I got them both in gold and I think they’re the only earrings I need! I totally recommend them.

Emily In Paris on Netflix – I’ve talked about this show so much. I make a reference to this show whenever I can, and I think that even I’m starting to get annoyed with myself. I love this show! I’m sorry! It’s so good! I want to go to Paris so bad (and I’ve also said this to you guys before lol). But I highly recommend this show if you love fashion, Sex and the City, travelling, or Europe/Paris. It was such a great escape that I’ve watched the entire first season 5 times now (and counting). I also just found out today that a second season is FOR SURE happening and I can’t contain myself!

Duolingo App / learning FrenchEmily In Paris and multiple customers from Montréal lately have encouraged me to work on my French. I studied French in elementary and secondary school so I have a decent understanding of the language. I can understand when a person is speaking French to me, but I have a terrible time trying to speak French back to them. I’m hoping that with help from Duolingo that I’ll build my confidence and understanding so that I may soon be able to carry a full conversation in French. I’m at least hoping so! Fingers are crossed! I’ve taken at least 10 minutes out of my day to learn some French through Duolingo for about 50 days now. I have a 50 day streak on the app and I think that’s absolutely nuts. I can’t believe I’ve stuck to it for this long! If you are looking to learn a new language, I highly recommend Duolingo. They have so many other languages on there and I find that they make learning a new language far less dreadful.

Love Island US Season 2 – You guys probably think I have the worst taste in shows at this point. I swear there are shows that I like that are actually good. For example, “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix! I finished the show in ONE DAY but I had already filmed my October favourites video so it was too late to include it. I am for sure going to mention it in this month’s favourites though. Love Island is a little different than The Queen’s Gambit because it’s a reality show. This US version was recorded at the top of a hotel building in Las Vegas during our pandemic. The basis of the show is that there are a bunch of men and women that are single and confined to this rooftop to find love. They “couple up” and try to find love with one another and if they don’t find love, they run the risk of being sent home. It’s honestly just a lot of drama. There are some people that make you question if they’re really there for love or just doing whatever it takes to stay on the show the longest. Some of them do find love though. There’s one couple that is my absolute favourite. I love Justine and Caleb so much that I follow both of them on Instagram now (#JALEB). As bad as this show may sound, it was really addicting. The show is really good at making things interesting/stirring the pot. Give it a shot and let me know what you think!

That’s it, guys! That’s another monthly favourites post for the books. We’ve got two more months of this dreadful year and I think we’re going to make it! I really hope that the world starts to look up. I’m currently writing while we wait for the results of the US Presidential Election and I believe we’re in store for some good change (update: turns out I was right! YAY BIDEN HARRIS!).

Here in Ontario we’re dealing with a record number of new COVID-19 cases almost every day for the past few days, and I think we might be making our way towards another lockdown. It’s such a terrible and scary situation to see the numbers rise but we have to stay positive! And do our part! Please wear a mask and stay home if you can!

I hope you’re all safe and well and until next time,

– Tiny ❤
